Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that fans and critics have asked about Fallout 2. This is the official one from BIS so you have probably seen it but I thought I would add it.
Q. When is Fallout 2 going to ship?
A. It is scheduled to be on the store shelves by mid-October.
Q. Is there going to be a Beta test group?
A. No There won't be a Beta test for Fallout 2. RPG's in general don't lend
well to Beta Testing. They are generally done for strategy or action
games.
Q. When is the Demo going to be released?
A. Doing a demo would delay the shipping of Fallout 2 significantly,
therefor we will not be doing one. Doing a demo for a complicated RPG
isn't a simple process, it would delay Fallout 2 by many months.
Q. Where is Fallout 2 going to take place?
A. In the wastelands of northern California. Visit New Reno, Redding, and
the ruins of San Francisco. Some places will not be visible from the
world map until you learn about them. Unless your character knows
there's a group of scientists hiding out in the mountains, you're
probably not going to find them without directions. We can't give out
anymore information than that, so please don't ask. We're not going to
ruin the game for you. ; )
Q. Can I use my character from Fallout 1 in Fallout 2?
A. Fallout 2 takes place 80 years in the future, so your character would
most likely be dead or drooling. And those kind of characters aren't
just much fun to play. Also, it would cause many balance problems if
very experienced characters could start the game at the beginning.
So, no.
Q. I hear you can pimp your spouse. Is this true?
A. Yes, this is a dark world. Since you can play either a good or evil
character, there are a lot of "bad" things you can do. It's up to you
to role play your character to the light or dark side. ; )
Q. Is there really a car in Fallout 2?
A. Yes, you'll be able to cruise the wasteland in a souped up car. You
won't fight other cars, but it will decrease your travel time and give
you the option to avoid random encounters. It will also carry your
NPCs ( hope they all fit!) Don't forget the trunk to store equipment
in. During the game you can find upgrades for the car.
Q. *Modified* Are the localized versions of Fallout going to ship with
the US version?
A. We are going to ship the foreign version of Fallout 2 as close as
possible to the US version. We now have a localization tool to help
expedite the translation process and help start the translations
months earlier. We do not know when it will hit the stores outside of
the US, but should be much closer to the US ship date than Fallout
1was. When we have more information on this we will update this FAQ.
Q. What new characters are there going to be?
A. Fallout 2 will have more mutants, droids, ghouls, giant lizards,
flesh-eating plants, etc. You'll be able to have party members that
range from a Super Mutants to a whiny scientist.
Q. Is the NPC AI going to be improved?
A. The Artificial Intelligence for the Non-Player Characters, both friend
and foe, is getting a huge overhaul. Both party members and other NPCs
will behave in a much more intelligent and deadly manner.
Q. If I attack one guard, will everyone on the map know immediately?
A. No, as mentioned. The AI is getting a very large improvement in many
areas. Guards will now have chance of hearing another guards cry for
help depending on where they are on the map and whether or not they
are in a building. Line of sight and hearing are being expanded and
improved.
Q. What control will I have over my party members?
A. You'll be able to give them strategic commands, tell them to heal
themselves, stay put, and even teach them new skills and abilities.
Q. Will I be able to give my party members better armor in Fallout 2?
A. Yes. You will be able to give party members any type of armor. To
avoid confusion they will look the same but their resistance to damage
will change.
Q. Any new Skills, Perks, or Traits?
A. Yes, but we're not ready to release that information yet. Sorry
Q. What new weapons?
A. We are adding: M72 Gauss Rifle, M3A1 "Grease Gun" SMG, Louisville
Slugger (bat), H&K CAWS, and the Solar Scorcher for starters. We don't
want to spoil the game so we probably won't release much more than
this for a while.
Q. Will there be non-lethal combat?
A. No. Only in rare specially scripted events will there be non-lethal
combat, like fighting in a boxing ring.
Q. Can I put a silencer on my gun?
A. We can't have silencers because it would drastically unbalance the
game.
Q. I heard you could combine items, is this true?
A. Yes. Certain items in the game will be able to be combined. Add a
laser sighting to that special rifle or up the ammo count in that
drum-fed auto shotgun.
Q. Will there be more quests and stuff?
A. Fallout 2 will have many more things to do than Fallout 1. Not all the
quests are available to any character. Some are gender or skill
dependent. Some aren't available right away, while others may appear
because of your actions in another part of the world.
Q. How much bigger is Fallout 2 going to be?
A. Fallout 2 has been advertised as being 50% bigger, but it is actually
much bigger than that. There are many more quests, maps, NPCs,
weapons, monsters, and all around things to do.
Q. Will Fallout 2 have expansion packs or add-ons?
A. There are not any plans at this time, but we are making the
modifications to the engine now, so that we will be able to in the
future. This does not mean that we will be making expansions, it just
gives us the ability if we want to.
Q. Will there be a time limit?
A. No time limit! : )
Q. Will Fallout 2 be using the same engine?
A. Yes. There will be a lot of new art and improvements to the engine,
but we're following the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Q. Will the load times be improved?
A. Yes. Load times area being addressed and should be significantly
quicker.
Q. Will Fallout 2 Support a 3D accelerator?
A. No. We are using the same 2D engine, so there isn't a need for one.
Q. Will there be a Macintosh Version for Fallout 2?
A. Regretfully no. It would cost more then we would make back on it.
Q. Will Fallout 2 have multi-player?
A. No. Fallout is a Story-based RPG so it won't be multi-player.
Q. Will there be Fallout 2 Merchandise available to the public?
A. There aren't any plans at this time, but we are looking into it.
Q. What are the System Requirements?
A. Required

Pentium(TM) 90 or faster
16 MB RAM
30 MB available hard drive space
Direct X certified SVGA card
